Rules for the NZCFA Anniversary Shield.
The Ranfurly Shield, colloquially known as the Log o' Wood, is perhaps the most prestigious trophy in New Zealand's domestic rugby union competition. First played for in 1904, the Ranfurly Shield is based on a challenge system, rather than a league or knockout competition as with most football trophies. The team must defend the Shield in challenge matches, and if a challenger defeats them, they become the new holder of the Shield.
- Each season the Log o' Wood, will start in the mens Third Division, Power League
- The Shield will start with a selected drawn team and is held by that team until they are defeated.
- Each game the Anniversary Shield is up for grabs.
- The Anniversary Shield will be displayed at Half Way at every challenge.
- If the game ends in a draw the HOLDER keeps the shield.
- The shield will be passed between divisions through Promotion and Relegation after Round One and also through the CFA Cup.
- The HOLDER at the end of Round One (if that team is not promoted into division two) will get automatic qualification into the CFA Cup.
- At the end of the season it will NOT be up for winning in Championship Playoffs.
- At the end of the season all HOLDERS will get their name engraved on one of the small shields (starting at the top).
- The next season a new HOLDER will be drawn for Round One from the mens Third Division - Power League.
